I also created a "US" soundtrack from the VHS soundtrack and pieced it together in a WAV editor with parts of the DVD soundtrack (i.e. There was an HD BD release in Germany only and it had only Spanish and Italian dubs on it, not the original soundtrack, but I was able to re-sync the DVD English soundtrack to it (took some doing since one of the two was not at the expected playback frame rate).

Actually, now that I checked, a Blu-Ray was released on October 26th of this year so I suppose it can be removed from the "list" now.Ĭlick to expand.You could try moving the soundtrack from the DVD over if the Spanish version lacks English audio tracks and either burn a BD-R or play it with a home media player like KODI on an NVidia Shield or whatever device. You could at least get that one on iTunes streaming in HD for a few years now. I finally was able to at least get The Desperate Hours in HD on Amazon Prime streaming (still better than the SD DVD by far) yet oddly no iTunes version (where most of my digital copy collection is for ones that aren't Movies Anywhere). It has never surfaced again (save possibly on TCM again at some point I ditched cable a few years ago so I wouldn't know). I thought for sure there'd be a Blu-Ray or at least a streaming HD version soon since they went to all the bother to convert it. I recorded it on the DVR at the time and it was so sharp compared to the crummy VHS version I have, but then the hard drive in the DVR went bad and I lost it. I've since seen it come out on DVD, but while watching TCM one day there it was in 1080i high definition.

I'm a big Humphrey Bogart fan and I bought Chain Lightning (1950) on VHS and converted to a digital file myself (while doing my home movies with a Pro VCR and TBC and Firewire setup many years ago). I lost a LOT of respect for James Cameron because of that and my message to him would be, "If you don't have time to do it, for god's sake let someone else in the mean time! Some of us aren't getting any younger!" For such a great movie, it's just astounding they'd pass up the sales and screw the fans over so very very badly all these years. For a movie James Cameron claims he doesn't want released until he can supervise the HD transfer (which might as well be the 4K or 8K transfer by now as it's been like 15 years since that comment or something ridiculous, it's funny how they managed to have it on HBO HD 15+ years ago and it still shows up (and it's not a bad transfer at all and certainly miles better than the old DVD).
It's bloody shocking that True Lies STILL isn't available in HD for sale (yet regularly shows up on Prime and/or other pay channels in HD).
I can't comprehend why they convert movies to HD only to not release them for sale (even just streaming). I was just looking for Only The Lonely again (I've got it on Laserdisc and DVD), but alas it's only available on Starz.
